  • Goldfields Aboriginal workers who deal with alcohol and other drug issues as part of their work met for the first time in Kalgoorlie on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 June 2010. Participants appreciated the chance to share information about the services available in the Goldfields and to discuss ways to improve services for local Aboriginal people. About Us

The Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA) is the peak body for the alcohol and other drug (AOD) education, prevention, treatment and support sector in Western Australia. Since its establishment in 1984, WANADA's membership has developed to reflect a 'whole-of-community' approach to AOD issues. WANADA is an independent, membership-driven not-for-profit association. Paid staff are supervised by an elected Board comprising agency delegates and individuals drawn from the membership.

Our Vision

To be regarded as the most influential voice and advocate on alcohol and other drug service sector issues in Western Australia, and support the service sector to effect real changes in a community affected by alcohol and other drug use.

Purpose

To be a combined, independent and effective voice on alcohol and other drug service sector issues through networking, consultation, lobbying, sector planning, representation and service enhancement on behalf of members and the sector.

The work of WANADA is guided by our:

  • Belief in the invaluable contribution that the non-government sector can make in both service delivery and policy development
  • Valuing and promoting the importance of a diversity of service and service options, highlighting the equal opportunity rights of all people affected by AOD use
  • Commitment to evidence based approaches and practice wisdom input to policy and practice to advance service delivery to the community
  • Commitment to support agencies striving for improvement and enhancement of service delivery
  • Commitment to supporting the needs for workers and volunteers in the alcohol and other drugs sector

Objectives

The key strategic objectives of WANADA are to:

  1. Effectively represent the AOD service sector
  2. Provide a valuable service to WANADA Members, including advocacy and public profile
  3. Improve sector service capacity and effectiveness
  4. Ensure sustainability of WANADA

Funding

WANADA's core funding is provided by the Western Australian Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO) and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing - Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.
