Kimberley Community Drug Service Team
Service Description
The Kimberley CDST provides assessment, counselling, referral and support to people who are experiencing problems as a result of alcohol or drug use. The KCDST works with individuals, families and communities to reduce the harms from alcohol and drug use. KCDST have staff based in Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek and Kununurra who visit all communities throughout the Kimberley.

AOD Counselling for individuals or groups
Consultation and support to other human service providers
Shared care management
Development of early intervention and harm minimisation strategies with key agencies
Professional development and training in addictions
Education and program development in response to identified community needs
Community development approaches to support local communities with alcohol and drug issues

Individuals 15 years and over who wish to engage
Families affected by alcohol or other drug issues
Schools, professionals, service providers and communities tackling local alcohol or other drug issues

This is a free service
Entry Requirements
Inclusion criteria;
Concerns about their own or someone else’s substance use
People wanting referral for access residential rehabilitation services
People seeking referral for Opiate Pharmacotherapy
People seeking information and education about psychoactive drugs or the health and social effects of substance use
Dual diagnosis; clients with a Diagnosed Psychiatric Disorder with secondary problematic substance abuse
People who are mandated to attend Cannabis Education Sessions
People referred by the courts for presentence assessment and intervention for substance use
Priority will be given to; people who are experiencing significant distress as a result of AOD use, people who are mandated by the courts, people with significant health impact from AOD use
Exclusion criteria;
Unwillingness to engage in AOD assessment and counselling
Acute intoxication at time of presentation
Organic conditions that might impede engagement in an insight-based program
Anti-social behaviour on KMHDS premises
Being unreasonable or aggressive with no evidence of a mental illness
Relationship difficulties not related to substance use
Sexual assault
Children and youth under 15 years without a carer significant other present
